Brendan Fraser was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, and is the youngest of four boys. While on vacation in London, the Texas Rising star attended his first professional theater show in the West End and became interested in acting. After graduating from Seattle’s Cornish College of the Arts in 1990, he planned on getting a Master of Fine Arts degree, however, Fraser decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue a film career.
In 1991, the Indiana native made his film debut in Dogfight and the following year he got his first leading role in the comedy Encino Man. The 1997 comedy film George of the Jungle was his first major box office success. The Gods and Monsters actor’s biggest commercial success came when he portrayed Rick O’Connell in the 1999 fantasy film The Mummy and its 2001 sequel The Mummy Returns. In 2004, Fraser starred in the critically acclaimed film Crash which went on to win the Oscar for Best Picture.
The Now and Then star branched into television in the 2000s with roles in the History miniseries Texas Rising, the Showtime drama The Affair, the FX series Trust and the HBO Max series Doom Patrol. Fraser revitalized his film career with appearances in films such as 2021’s No Sudden Move and 2022’s The Whale, which earned him his first Academy Award nomination for Best Actor in a leading role.
The Bedazzled actor married actress Afton Smith in 1998 and the two share three sons — Arthur, Holden and Leland, born in 2002, 2004 and 2006, respectively. The duo announced their divorce in 2007. Following his split from Smith, Fraser began a relationship with LA-based makeup artist Jeanne Moore. The couple made their red carpet debut at the Venice Film Festival in September 2022.
